If u had to choose one of the following places for shore-based salt fly fishing in mid-June, would it be: Jersey Shore, Delaware, MD coast, or Outerbanks?
And where & why?
Thanks from a man who has to match the run, fly, tide, time...and family demands from 2-month-old to 73-year-old. Short of leasing a Cray supercomputer, I figure u all could help.
Jersey but I don't know a whole lot about it. I'm sure most people would tell you to head there that time of year. But since a lot of guys live here they'll tell you De. isn't bad either. If I had a lot of time in June, it would be CBBT or Mass.. But I'm in your shoes with a little one. I've prepped everyone for April and aligned baby sitting but April is more than half way done and I've barely done any fishing, or should I say I've barely caught any fish.
I'd say next week in MD could be the best light tackle shore/small boat fishing on the east coast. As that water warms and those biological clocks are ticking, those fish will soon realize it's time to party. And they tend to work up an appetite once they finish their deed.
Without knowing the family demands outside of a 2 month old and a 73 year old, there's not much to go on except the fishing in which case I would say central NJ (Sandy Hook to Barnegat Inlet) with a good run of blues, weakies, and stripers on ocean and bay side of IBSP and the ocean and bay side of Sandy Hook. What a 2 month old does anywhere is pretty much eat sleep and fill diapers.... I don't know and how agile the 73 year old is so that may also limit your options. Otherwise, the boardwalks and beaches in central Jersey are OK and Six Flags is not far off. Cape May would also be a second option in NJ.
if you go to the outer banks you can wade behind Bodie Island for specks and drums. You will also catch the occasional croakers, blues, and striper's. Go to the Bodie Is Lighthouse parking lot and take the dirt road leading out of the lot toward the water. take bug spray.
