    Default Shad...did Someone Say Shad

Went to Deer Creek with ctb today. Water temp at Stafford holding at 49 degrees. Same temps at mouth of DC. This is the week we usually take off for serious shad fishing, with some flats mixed in sometimes. So far ctb has caught 2 shad for our efforts. But, Don't despair, next week when we go back to work, shad fishing will be FANTASTIC.

diddo, I stood on the bridge talking with a few others looking for hickories, didn't see a fish. Water is a bit high but very clear. Next week should be good after the warm spell

I knew when your brother said you two were taking vacation for some shad fishing we were in trouble. If there any shad around still hopefully this coming weekend action should pick up.

When I decided to call it for the night (8 pm) you and your brother were still catching. Always a pleasure fishing along side a couple of fly guys of your caliber, and the conversation wasn’t bad either.
What a great 10 hours of catching hickories it was, all in water 3 feet or less. The water temps on the creek Friday were around 48 degrees up till late maybe 4 pm. It was like a light switch being turned on, at 50 degrees they started there run. By Saturday evening the water temperature had jumped to 52 degrees up by the pumping station and there were fish literally everywhere in full spawn. I was using a 4wt St.Croix Avid with 130 grain line and at times it was not enough (hard on the fish) rod to get the job done. Got to step up a to a 5wt cause these babies are really big. All fish today were caught on JB’s #8 red and yellow marabou streamer and WB’s all pink #8 marabou streamer. I don’t expect this run to last very long because they were 2 weeks late getting here and they seemed to be in a hurry to get it done and get out of there.
