    Default (Mud) Shad fest!

Or Snag Fest I should say. Went down to 14th St. at lunch and the Gizzards were going crazy.
One on every cast. River's totally blown out but I had to try even if it was just to get a little "Poor Man's Pullage"

My experience has been that when the river is up the gizzard (mud) shad run along the shoreline. There were days at Chain Bridge that I would see a bazillion of them coming up along the shore. So much so it was hard to get a fly down below them to the hickories. Almost every cast would result in a snagged gizzard.

I think they are exclusively plankton feeders. Also, I believe they are resident fish not anadramous so they do not hit flies. In several years of fishing at chain bridge and countless snagged gizzards, I actually lip hooked only two or three fish total.
