Flyfishing Denmark - April 22nd.

Fishing Denmark day 4.

The last day of our trip to Fyn Island was upon us.
After cleaning out the cottage we pondered where we would spend our last hours of seatrout fishing before we would go back to the Netherlands.
Stories where floating around that the Garfish had arrived in the Baltic.
Since I had never caught one on the fly we went to a likely spot where they might
be encountered.
This spot was on the side of the Island where the distance between mainland Jutland and the Island of Fyn was smallest.

We walked down the cliff and first fish a sandbar that extended into deeper water at the end.
Between the sandbar and the beach the patchy bottom of sand and stones was fished thoroughly and soon we felt the first takes.
Fish where present but we could not manage to hook anything.
High clouds only let the sun through partially, the water temperature measured around
7 degrees C.
Later in the day the skies cleared an the sun came out.

Suddenly Tom yelled “porpoise” and too my surprise a harbor porpoise surfaced quite close to him.
I was able to grab the camera and take some pictures, as always pretty difficult to get these creatures on film since you never know exactly where they surface.

These porpoises are called in Danish "Marsvin" which means something like sea-pig, what an odd name for such a beautiful creature.

While wading over the sandbar I saw the signs of lugworm presence.
Next time I have to get me some of those Danish Borsteormen or lugworm flies just in case.

We fished another hour or two at incoming tide but we did not catch any fish
on this last outing.



Trying until the last.

As usual it was a sad moment to say goodbye to Fyn Island.
We had experienced some good days of Baltic sea fishing, even though conditions
where not always favourable we had enjoyed a successful trip.
We will surely do this again maybe in fall.

Sounds like it was a successful trip. Nice sized fish, beautiful scenery, no work, only thing missing is an open brew pub just back from the beach.
