It was stupid at Fletcher's today....

I have two little kids at home, so I take my fishing combat-style...dodge in unannounced, fish like hell for an hour, then scream back to the car and get home at a reasonable hour.

In one hour today at Fletcher's I caught 5 American and about a dozen hickory shad. FROM SHORE.

About a dozen boats on the water, and everybody was hookin up.

Black over orange clouser was lights out...every American took that fly, but most of the hickories were on a red and white dropper.

Silly.

"efficient fishin missions" is a good term. I did something similar. Check my report but I DIDN"T GET ANY AMERICANS! Booooooooo

I think I was fishing too shallow.

It was stupid from a boat as well (thanks for the call, Doug, which I found when I got back to the office this morning; I already was on the river when you called!). 2 Americans and 2 many hickories to count; a few white perch as well. The Americans didn't want the orange fly, even one with some black in it; and indeed I started to do better on hickories after a while when I changed the orange fly to a chartreuse fly. The Americans took the old standby white with red head; the hickories took most anything.
