    Default Youghiogheny River MD

I plan to fish the C&R section of the Youghiogheny River in MD this weekend. I've never been there before so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

The water is probably still a bit cold so as far as hatches go it will likely be midges and blue wing olives. I would suggest fishing the upper end of the C & R water. There are some nice deep runs between boulders beside the road into the power plant. A black or olive wooly bugger on a #6 or #8 nymph hook fished on the bottom should move a couple of fish there. Below that about a couple hundred yards where Hoy's Run comes in there is a long wide eddy where there are usually rising fish if the midges and/or BWO are coming off. There is a small parking area beside Hoys Run across the street from Streams and Dreams B&B.

There is also a delayed harvest section in Friendsville. Patuxent specials, glow buggs, san juan worms will all take stocked and naturalized trout well. Spilunkr gave good advice about hatches. Could be some really nice caddis hatches in the evening.

Skip the yuck and go to the Savage. Better and bigger fish. I would rather catch 1 big brown then 40 little rainbows.
