I've used the "plier type" tools to hold the fish or more like keep them from swimming away. I don't pick them out of the water. Works well and you don't have to handel the fish. Give them a try.
Was chatting with Newell at Angler's Lie, where I went to replace some flies and a line that's nearly worn out, and he asked me to say that he's seen a couple cases where the lower jaw of an American shad broke off when it was being lifted on a Boga grip to weigh it.
They weigh more if you just estimate them, anyway.

By the way, the river looked somewhat muddy when I drove across Chain Bridge at about 1.30 pm today.

Anyone using a Boga is a certifiable yuppie. Which is not good. Not only was it muddy, the fishing was very poor. Actually something of a relief after last week.
I went to Fletcher's with my wife and out-of-town friends today just to look and then to walk along the canal, which we did; to CB and acorss to check the river, and back. Glorious day, but I didn't see anybody catch anything while I was there, and all the boats were out on the river. I was told it's been slow since Friday.
