    Default OI Sun 4/29

Left the OI ramp at 0530 on Korona, 22 Grady. Started at 0800 at the 550 with an early miss on the flat pink witch and some teethmarks on the newly painted black planer. Then 4.5 hours of nothing until we got covered up by mahi at the 650. Hits on 6 of 9 lines, got them all in...not bad for 3 guys early in the season. Lines back out and an hour later got 2 more of 3 to end the day at 1530. Tough day for tuna...started with an all pink spread, then started throwing in some green, blue, blk/purple, and eventually went to all nakeds. Also, had a planer down all day with pink witch, drones and a braid runner. No tuna bites at all. From the chatter on 80, sounds like we did OK with the 8 mahi. Started out a little bouncy, but turned into beautiful day in the stream. Good luck. John

We were out there as well....started at the 580 trolled south & then north. never went past the 600. it was SLOW. we had 3 bites & landed all three. one 30 lb tuna, one graffer mahi & one barely legal mako. First mako for us.

It seemed slow for most.....did see one of the charter boats back at the dock w/ about 10 yf's. not sure where or what they were doing.

Ain't nothing wrong with some fresh mahi for dinner. Nice job.

I'm impressed you can run 9 lines on a 22 foot boat. It's a challenge for me in my 29 footer and at times forced to go to 7 in rough conditions.

Fishdad, when it's rough (like yesterday AM) I don't try 9, but when it's calm I can pretty easily do 2 long riggers, 2 shorts, 2 corners, 2 flats, 1 high WWB on the center rigger, and even a tenth one low down the middle, if I want.

    JLoomis,
We fished yesterday as well. I agree that it was a rough morning as well. Went 2 for 2 on tunas (one nice one around 50lbs) and released 2 Makos. Would have liked to have found the Dolphions, but did not.

Headed out on business until mid-June. I'll get hold of you then and we'll have to fish the same day down there.

    Big Country,
Great job on the tuna. What'd they hit on and where did you find them?

I'm returning from an o-seas trip about the same time (12 June). Getting together sounds good. You bring the tuna luck and I'll take care of the mahi! John

Based on the shot (hindsight of course), I was wondering if anything happened N of the point. The water looked best up around the 660, of course that was last night after the day of fishing was over. Sounds like you did very well comparatively.

Fished with Camolaw Sunday and found it rougher than expected. We got a late start due to some crab pot wrangling on the way out. Started around the 530 and like everyone else,, SLOW. Ended with 2 descent gaffers and a throw back YFT and another small YFT let go on his way to the boat. Called it a day early due to the reports and tired of bouncing around. Heard some rumors later that the bite may have started in the afternoon ?? Anything to it?

Nice talking with Capt Ben "No Mercy" while out there.

We were around the point. I couldnt tell you exactly, I was on a friends boat and was running lines all day and he was in the tower. Tuna bites were on blue/white Ilander and pink sea witch. Makos hit blue/white witch and a naked. I tried everything and every color since the bite was slow.

I get back about the same time. I'll BMail you and we'll head on down
