    Default 9 wt line recs?

I picked up a new 9 wt rod and reel at Orvis sales recently. I already have a 10 wt reel with a floater and spool with t-14 so the plan is to load the new reel with a fast intermediate or maybe sink tip. Get me down some but not too much and should be a good casting line to make up for the guy throwing it and would mostly be used in area waters

Any recs? SA Striper Intermediate? Cortland's Little Tunny line? Rio Sink Tips?

    Sebastian-

I think I have tried most of the intermediates. The best casting line that tangles the least is the Airflo Cold Water Striper. This line really does tangle less than the others. The drawback, as I see it, is that it is blue in color, and I am not sure whether albies will shy away from a colored line. I have not fished it enough for albies yet to know. I think Brian uses colored lines on albies and he would know.

The clear or near clear intermediate that I prefer is the SA Striper line which is a surf color. Depending on how stiff the rod is and casting style, you may want to up line by one with either of these lines.

"Fast intermediate"? Isn't that like "very mediocre"?

I use SA full-sink type III for a moderate sinking line; otherwise I've done well with the SA saltwater series intermediate line, which casts well for me and keeps the fly just below the chop (I use it in the ocean). But mostly I use fast-sinking lines on my 9-weight around here.

Congratulations on your new rod & reel; what did you get?

    FF makes a good point.

If you want to get down slowly, a line that you do not hear much about but is very useful at times is the SA Streamer Express 250. It casts very easily on a 9 wt and is great in that 7' to 15' range. I prefer intermediates to about 6' and then would rather fish something that gets down quicker. The 250 will also carry a big striper fly better than an intermediate.

Rio Outbound and Airflow 40+ intermediates cast very, very easily. Buy a 9 wt because they are built roughly 2 weights overweight since they're actually shooting heads factory attached to the running line.

    FF,

A T-3 and Battenkill LA. Combined just under $400. I think a pretty good deal.

Thanks for the input guys. Lots of good recs.

Nice. I think the Battenkill LA is Orvis's best reel deal even at list price.

The relatively new Cortland Precision Striper Intermediate has worked well, even in warm Florida water.

    Default Little Tuny Camo Intermediate

I like the Little Tuny camo intermediate on my 8wt. I use it in the inlets. I also am very fond of the Rio lines and I like the Aqualux striper line with the 300 grain head. The blue intermediate running line shoots very well with little tangles. I also have two Airflow lines in a 300 grain and 250 grain integrated head. RIO also make an excellent clear intermediate line. I usually fish the 10 wt line on my 8 and 9 wt rods.
