    Default OC tog and flounder

Uncle Phill and I hit Ocean City for 2 days of Tog and Flounder fishing last Friday and Saturday and here is how it went. We got on the water at 0600 Friday morning and stop at a spot that we caught some tog last year and we fished it for about 2 hours and only managed 1 small tog so we decided to go after some flounder. We fished a channel and low and behold I caught the first legal flounder of the day and nice 18 ½ but that was the only one for a long time. We then went to the Rt. 50 Bridge and seen that some guys where catching some small blues so we decided to go after then for a while. Well it did not take long to start catching them I even was catching them on a bare jig head up to 17”, so after about 50 or so we went back to fishing for flounder and then Phill caught his keeper a nice 17 ½ but that was the end of the keeper flounder other then some small ones. Later on in the day I get a call from Lance (Longfin 2) and he told me he just put 2 in the boat at 20 and 21 so off we went to his spot but it was getting late and we did not catch any so we got off the water at 8:00 PM so we put 14 hours on the water Friday. Did I mention that is was very cold Friday and I never got out of my 2 sweatshirts and raincoat.

Saturday Phill and I got on the water again at 0600 and started fishing the same place we found the flounder on Friday and it did not take long for Phill to put the first keeper in the boat and then I follow with a keeper. We then headed North to fish another spot and I then landed 2 more keepers and one of them was a nice fat 20”er. We called it a day at 12:00 and headed home but we did catch a lot of undersize flounder and some that were keepers at 15 1/5 but back in the water they went, to close to keep. I would like to thank Lance for the phone call Friday and I wish you could had made it out with us on Saturday, I need for you to show me ONE more time how to get into the spot. Thanks for the great time Phill and I hope we can get down there again.

Way to go Steve, some nice fish and you didn't have to drive over 4 hours to Wachapreague!

A great time indeed! Steve didn't even mention the fine pullage from the horseshoe crabs, spider crabs, mussels and clear-nosed skates! Thanks Lance for calling us in on your spot, we saw several boats in there on Saturday. Can't wait to do it again.

No problem Steve and Phil, sorry the tog bite didn't work out for ya. We got 2 more throwbacks after you guys left on friday but that was it. If I could just get done work on the other boats I could put some real time in! The tog will be there till probably the middle of June but personally, if I were gonna take a day off to fish for them, I'd wait till the end of October thru November (so keep some days open). Still need to get you offshore and strapped into a pig bluefin Steve!

Nice report. I'm heading down this Saturday morning, weather permitting. Sue Foster reports that lots of blues are in the area, hopefully it holds out until this weekend. Sounds like the beaches are doing well also. Did you guys jig most of these fish up, or did you drag bait?

Lance-I hope we can hook up for an off shore trip but like I said I have never been off shore and I'm not much into losing sight of land if you know what I mean. I'll be in touch and keep the week before Thanksgiving open that’s when we will be back down there

Derekd-I think you are right we did catch a lot of small flounder and the blues are just about everywhere.

Norman-We were dragging bait for the flounder but jigged for the blues, like I said the blues where so thick I was just using a plan jig head and catching all the blues I wanted.
