Help with Croakers on the Rappahanock

Coming down on the Rappahnnock this Saturday to do some Croaker fishing, and need alittle help on a good area to jump off at. When is the best time of the day for Croaker there (morning or night)? Where to go in West Point and Saluda and are they running now? Mountain man coming down out of the hill and need help!

Try between Moratico and Whitestone Bridge area. Croaker bite has been strong there in recent weeks. Garrett's Marina is good launch point.

Been pretty decent also off of the Red Barns which is just upstream from Urbanna and LaGrange Creek. Fishing around the high tide (preceding and following) with blood worms and squid.

I have had very good luck in Tappahanock around the 360 bridge, & also at the powerlines. Steady action at both places with the fish averaging 2#, some a little nicer.

Had good luck straight out from Garrett's marina with squid - didn't have much luck on fresh shrimp. The water was still a little cold for fish-bites, so I don't know how they'll do.

Launch fee at Garrett's is $10.00 There is overflow parking up the hill.
If the weather holds, I"ve promised three kids I'd take them out Saturday, so I might see you there.

Thought the issue has been well covered already Ive been catching 200 plus a trip from Red Barns to Moratico bar fishing 5 to 15 foot of water. Bigger fish do seem to be in the upriver area.

I went out of Garrett's yesterday (Tuesday). Ramp fee is $15. Bite was rather slow compared to all the recent reports of fast action and big fish. Not a lot of boats but those I saw were not pulling them in any faster. I moved around a lot and tried a lot of different depths. Not sure if a weather pattern scattered them or I just fished between the schools all day. Still ended the day with all I cared to clean (equal parts catfish and croaker) and made use of the cleaning station Garrett's has. Obviously fish are there, not trying to discourage anyone from going. Fish will probably be feeding heavily today after fasting yesterday! :)

Oh yeah. One thing I did see was some rednecks in a bayliner sinking all their empty beer bottles as they drained them. Very discouraging to think folks today still think this is OK. Gave some thought to reporting thier hull number, but figured the responsible agency wouldn't care or actually do anything. I was close enough to holler how that was not cool and they of course got yappy in return. They left before I pulled anchor to get close enough for hull numbers. Now I wish I had it. Forgot I had binos. I don't think about them unless I see a see a bikini.

There's a Public Boat Ramp (FREE) on Greenvale Creek just off Rt 654 (River Rd) in Lancaster County.

The mouth of the creek in kind of shallow (needs dredging badly but don't get me started on that!) Once you're out of the creek find any spot where there's at least 15' (preferrably 19') of water and put some squid on #1 or #2 hooks. You'll get some croakers and you'll probably get a few catfish too depending on the tide.

Just upriver from the mouth of Greenvale Creek is an old Oyster House. It's a long white building right on the shore with a long pier. There's good fishing anywhere in front of that building or on the other side of the creek (downriver) in front of the Red Barn like another poster already pointed out.

Neighbor cleaned up on them in Butlers Hole on Sat. Lot's of doubles. But lots of small along with the large. Squid and bloods.

I spent Wednesday through Saturday last week fishing Urbanna area.. mouth of the corotoman was absolutely hot! Depending on the tide and time of day we fished in 15 to 35 feet of water.. experiment until you find the fish... using squid and blood worms.. caught a ton of croaker... I'm talking about hundreds... a fair amount of perch... one spot... one shad.... one cat fish and a couple of 18 inch stripers casting bucktails around structure...

Can't wait to get back!
