Cool Report - one for the team

    Bluefin scouting mission!

Left the nearly empty dock at 6:00 Friday, relieved that the winds from the night before had calmed down.

The seas varied from 2-4 feet all day, not bad at all. Blazingly sunny with a moderate SW wind. Sea turtles and grass patches every couple miles(esp over the hills) but not much other life spotted.

Big blue spreader short, WWB bird/gm, natural cedar plug chain and alternating purple zuker and big pink chromehead built with Becky's ingredients. This is what was run all day to keep things simple as I was solo.

First stop, 26 mile hill. Nothing, nada. Spent 2 hours trolling it from all angles, but no bait or even bluefish.

Second stop, the 20 fathom finger/the crotch. Bluefish took passing swipes at the spreader and the WWB. Fast blues as I was going tuna speed. Kept four. No tuna dangit. See a Grady and catch up on the radio with Tommy who is having a good shark day (sure would have loved to see the White shark). We decided that his sea temp reading of 68.5 was closer than mine of 47.5 - silly Furuno.

Third stop, 21 mile hill. Not really a stop as I trolled all the way from the crotch to the hill. Not a peep, just a tan. Started talking to sea turtles.

Back to the dock at 6:15. Really pretty day, just no tuna. Good thing I like bluefish.

Charlie fished the 26 on thursday in the LUCKYDUCK , he had about the same day as you did . I thought you would be eying the warm water 80 miles from the inlet to the southeast . if this wind did not blow tommorow ( sun) we were going to give it a try . :)

Alby I was just making sure I wasn't letting a BFT squadron get by at the inshore spots. I'll be ready to hit the gulf stream water soon :)

Nice report. I've also been wondering if there were not a few bft squadrons cruising on the warmer inshore lumps, but didn't have the guts to go for it. Maybe things will pick up after the storm.

I made it to the 26 mile hill Saturday. There was little sign of life and if I marked anything it was brief and isolated. I did pick up a 4lb Bonito and a 10 lb bluefish but they seemed to be all alone.

Next week when the weather passes and things calm down I'll go out again.

The water temp was averaging about 68.

I'm sure things will heat up soon and it will be game on.

Thanks for the report, no one ever wants to be the first to tempt a day with no fish. We have been talking about heading towards the cigar and that warm eddy that is around the 100-500 fathom line. Have to work this week maybe next week.
