Just back from the "northern part" of the realm and checking with multiple locations all recommending the following for your parties needs

    call...Bud & mary's @ 305-664-2461

    Robbies Charters @ 305-664-8498 or 8070

    ALSO...GAS is running around $3.25 - $3.30 a gal most every where

However...there are two Mobil stops in Islamorada that are selling at $2.97 and $2.99 the $2.99 is a Dions convenience and Dion's has great fried chicken, at least the one in Marathon does...the places are around the MM 84.5 area just North of The World Wide Sportsman AKA BPS

    hope this helps

if I sneak up there to visit my old neighbors in VA Beach..I'll let ya know hope you enjoy the visit in Paradise

just a comment or so...while at the World wide Sportsman in Islamorada I walked the docks like I normally do, now I know and expect to see fish in the lagoon at the restaurant because they feed them over there, but in the boat basin i usually do not see much more than a few small cudas and a nurse shark or two...well today was a minor bonanza...one of the larger charter boats had just backed in and dirtied some of the water and along the edge of the dirty water were several large Cudas and some tarpon ambushing the mullet that were skirting the edge of the muddy water, in the clear water ( its reallynice to look down 10+ft even in the inshore areas) there were several big rays gliding along the bottom chasing crabs and even saw a small school of spadefish ( about hand size) cruising under the docks and all the schools of minnows/bait were in balls because of all the predators in the vicinity...lot's of activity in the water today

Thanks again, as you proboly know the light tower in va beach is holding tons of spades with quite a few 10plus pounders mixed in, but the idiots out their are carzy, witness what I think was a charter's anchor pull on him and ran into about 7 boats, he was an ass and pushed his way in (you could walk accross the boats out their, I'll stick to cobia). One more question, do you know a good place to rent roads, do not want to chance damaging my equipment and hauling it on the flight. Thanks again for all your input.

I don't know of any place to rent tackle of any real quality, If it was me, I'd ship the rods to the lodge using Pvc tubes and wrapping the rods in light weight towels or something similar and pack the reels in my carry on or in my checked bags, could always use a cooler as part of your checked bags and put tackle in there,( duct tape it shut) each person is allowed up to 3 checked bags if I remember right, when going home just ship the rods back home any UPS store can do the shipping and some even have boxes for fishing rods...if you have a good rod case like the bazooka model they protect the rods very well also

OR you could...always...buy all new stuff when you get down here and ship it home when you leave....

    Default Shipping Rods

jc - go to any tackle store, they should have rod tubes (cardboard/sturdy). It cost me ~30.00 to ship two rods down to Islamorada. Call where you're staying ahead of time and let'em know they're on the way. I packed the reels/plano boxes/tackle in my luggage.

Bob - Give me a holler next time you're up this way. I'm trying to plan another quick trip to Islamorada / Marathon in the fall... and will DEFINITLELY meet up then... sorry we didn't get together when I was there in April.
