Going to Greys point looking for better fishing other than croaker Help
I bought a place at grays point and was looking for new spots other than the red barn and buoy 8. What type of fish can I catch other than spot and croaker.
Thanks for your help
I also have a place in Grey’s Point since 2000. There are numerous fishing opportunities close to the campground. Flounder are available at the bridge, mosquito point and 7R. Blues up to about 3 pounds are available from windmill point to the bridge starting about now and running through September. Trout are also available but you catch 1 keeper for every 15 caught. Boats name is Rivah Gypsy monitor VHF Ch-68.
You're within minutes of about everything that swims in the bay up to the rapp. Just like the bay bridge tunnel, the pilings of the rt 3 bridge hold lots of different fish. The pilings hold lots of baitfish so you can catch blues, trout, stripe, croaker, and any other predatory fish around the pilings. Normally down on the bottom.
Head to the North side of the bridge, around 15 to 20 feet (piling # 15 ?) and you can find flounder... from there out to the rusted tanks at the "pickle factory" off cherry point hold the flounder. On the Pickle factory side when the water drops to 35-40 feet, fish for croaker and spot. On the flats between the Pickle Factory and the bridge there are lots of rod bending stingrays.
On the South side of the river when the rain and weather are right you can catch puppy drum from the bridge back to the mouth of the rapp on shoreline structure like riprap and piers and docks.
You're right where you need to be... just get out there and fish. Early mornings and evenings will triple your catch.
wow! puppy drum?! I didnt know they were that prevalent out there but good nonetheless. How about Cobia? Any of those ever reported being close by?
hey guys i will be at grays point tomorrow morning ,,, if you havent seen me fishing im driving a blue jeep , that says quiksilver addition ,,, come over and say hi if your bord .
I didn't say prevalent, just that they might be available. And yes, there are reports that they've been caught in the Piankitank already so they're close. I've caught them in previous years in Mill Creek behind Parrot island. Hank Norton used to tell me that he could catch them in Sturgeon Creek on normally dry years. Too much rain/sediment and they don't come up this far.
and you're talking about cobes right?

Wasn't talking about cobia, only puppy drum. Over the years I've heard of a couple of cobia caught around stingray. But not many. Most are south and on the east side of the bay.
