Weekends have been heavy with boat traffic (as usual). The pattern is Senko's under docks early and late in the day. Walleye and some bass fishing off the points. The State Park shoreline has been good with crankbaits deep.
I was wondering if anyone has fished Deep Creek Lake yet? I'm hoping to get out there in the next few weeks and would like to know how the bite is. Thanks.

I'll be there for a few days with my 4yo son on July 12 & 13th. Hopefully we can get some fishing in. I usually try to fish early or late there, as there is less boat traffic. I usually try to fish topwater early and late, and fish shiners in 15-20' during the day.
Haven't fished it in a couple years, and usually only fish once/year for a week or so.
Good Luck
Mike
Thanks for the advice guys -
Mgargner1, I think I am going that same weekend.
Stripper22 - We threw Senko's last year and did pretty well. I think that is what we will use again. We'll probably try to get out REALLY early on saturday to beat the boats...nothing worse then having boats everywhere when your trying to fish.
Thanks!
I forgot to mention top water at night. The backs of the coves and downed trees. It's a blast. I have be throwing the flyrod and having a blast. I'll skip the next couple of weekends as the boat traffic will stain the water pretty good.
We were up there in June and absolutely crushed the smallmouth. Also caught some very nice largemouths too.
Senko, grubs and live bait were the ticket.
That is what I like to hear Smells like fish. Were they deep or did you just fish the shore line's? Last year some of the locals said live bait was working well...maybe we'll give it a shot.
Hopefully it'll be over cast and no one will be out boating around.
Fishon161,
When using bait at Deep Creek I have always fished away from shoreline. Usually in the 12'-18' depth range. I think the smallies retreat to the deeper water during the day, and they will take your shiners if you can find the fish. There is a nice hump off the state park that has plenty of bass and pickeral around it, and there used to be a lot of smallmouth on stump point. Those are two places that have produced with shiners for me in the past. Since I am going to have my son with me when I am there, I will likely stay at close to the state park if there are fish there to be caught.

Mgardner,
Yea...I found out I have a final for a summer class on saturday the 14th. so my plan is to take off once it is over (10AM). It's only a few hours to Deep Creek so we'll be able to fish the afternoon and into the evening. we'll fish some on sunday too. We are heading down to get the boat (dingy) started up before a nice friendly tournament we have with some buddies. And we are trying to scope out some nice spots so our team has the advantage.
So you actually don't toss plastics and spinners close to the shore? We fish senkos (wacky) around here in Loch Raven, but lately it has not been hot b/c so much grass is starting to grow on the bottom.
If you get to a computer after you guys fish on the 12th and 13th, let me know how ya did. Were going up the 14th. Good Luck!
If it was just me, that is probably what I would be doing. Since I will be alone with my 4y.o., I will be trying anything to keep him occupied. If I can get there early enough on Thursday, I'll try fishing topwater in the cove right next to the state park. I have had good luck there in the past. Then probably move out to fish bait off the beachs at the state park.
I'll be getting back sometime on Friday, probably early afternoon, so I probably won't be able to post before you head out.
Good Luck,
Mike
