    Default Day one... Day two...KABOOM!!!!

Good friend and fishing partner John Maciejczyk came in town to bust up a few pelagics so I rounded up two crews to complete a schedule as rigorous as we both enjoyed when we first started fishing together several years ago. Back to back offshore trips was the plan with some Flounder fishing thrown in on day three would have us both tuckered out. Day one: John (DocM), Eric (speedjunkie), Joel Eberly and I left Rudee at 0415, had an overheat alarm and the pisser stream was very weak however, all indicators water temp and pressure were fine so we ran back to port unclogged the pisser and headed east got lines in @ 0730 and the port long goes down and we box a nice 35 lb YFT. Continue trolling towards the canyon and the WFB goes down, seems like a nice fish and about 25 min later we bag our second YFT a nice 55 lber. Trolled a bit longer and decided to pull the plug at noon and return the very next day. Two for two nice YFT. Day two: John (DocM), Eric (speedjunkie), Eric (sawdust) and I leave Rudee at 0445 headed again for the canyon when 5 nm past the tower my lower unit grenades and we are out of commission. Call SeaTow and within one hour Steve pulls along side cracks a few jokes and tows us in at 11 kts. Day three (tomorrow): I will take the Whaler to Brownings Marine for a new lower unit and meet Don (Old School) to complete the weekend with a lesson in Flounder fishing!

All in all a great weekend with great friends, a bit exciting, a bit disappointing but we got some meat, had some good conversations waiting on SeaTow… not half bad.

Hats off to SeaTow and Steve, he responded promptly (less than one hour from the time we got in touch with him to the time he arrived) was extremely professional and towed us back to port without incident.

    John's YFT

    Joel's YFT

    OUCH

    Waiting

    and... waiting

Had the same thing to me about 18 years ago at Diamond Shoal Tower with an OMC. Knock-a-knock- BOOM! Pinion gear exited just like your photo, kinda sucks even when warranty.. Good luck with it.

Ouch Glad it happened fairly close in on a great weather day. Congrats on the good fishing the first day. Thanks for the bait order, check should be there.
I just got back last night and I'm already planning the next adventure.

Only the truly ate up understand the maddness.

Ouch, nice work on the fish. If you need a boat ride I might be fishing this weekend.

Lou, sorry about the mishap. We were out near the Washington on Saturday. Could I have heard you on Ch. 68 trying to contact someone on a G.W. that was crossing your stern while you had a fish on? Sounded like you and I tried calling several times but there was much chatter on 68. Tim

    Tim:
I believe that was Brian Hodson, trying to keep a boat off my stern while we fought some BOSCOS. Apparently the boat didn't realize we had fish on deep behind us.
