maybe 45 if I was lucky...
some visiting tourist (gawd I'm dreading the 2 day special lobster season coming up) actually managed to come so close to the seawall ( why I'll never know) that he ripped the halogen light on the cleaning station that lights the water at night,,,CLEAN OFF,,,ripped the wood mount and all clean away and just kept going out to sea...FWC was waiting for his, Now very inebriated carcass when he came back,
So because the neighbor is still recovering from multiple surgeries, he fell off his boat davit and broke his ankle and foot in like 12 or 13 places, and he is always telling me to come over and fish, I decided to replace the light and mount today, so while cutting , screwing, wiring, bolting etc. I keep watching Tarpon up to about 6 foot roll at the mouth of the canal, the mouth is directly across the street from me,,,,so I finish the light, and yes it works and I decide to pitch a 1/4 oz jig tipped with a 8 inch white grub and see if MR Poon will oblige
On about the 3rd cast a big boil pushes water up from beneath the jig which was swimming at about 12 in below the surface, but no hit, and I couldn't see what pushed the water so I toss it out again and slow it down a little and keep it about 18 in down
then all I see is this Garbage can open behind the jig and inhale it and head seaward.
for about 30 seconds My 25# spin outfit is screaming its brains out as a groupeer about 36 in long JUST LEAVES...with my jig firmly clamped in his jaws....
Tomorrow it's TLD 25's at 30 paces in case MAWS wants a rematch, and there ain't gonna be no 25 lb test anywhwere near him this time...50 lb big game with a 9/0 on 100 lb ande leader
score tonight bob 3, grouper 1...I'm ahead 'cause I got 2 cuda's (shark bait) and one Tarpon about 4ft long...
