After hearing that Greg Spann(Canyon Express) weighed two big BFT on Thursday. Decided to go fish what we know. Started at the 490 on the 100 fathom line. Worked the area pretty much all morning. Around 9 am we get our first 2 knockdowns. Get the first one up to the leader and bust him off right beside the boat. Gather ourselves quickly and shake it off and we slam a 58.1 lbs. YFT on the deck. As soon as I pushed back up to 7 kts. Keith had just dropped the green spreader bar about 20 ft back another YFT tuna crushes it. Make quick work oh him and our 2nd YFT at 43 lbs. hits the deck. Kept working that area and noticed to the north a huge school of porpoises pushing hard south at about 5 kts. They came right down to me and I was able to head them off. As soon as they hit my spread we had a huge boil on the green spreader again. Steve worked the fish to the boat in about a half hour and we slam our 3rd YFT at 71.4 lbs. in the box. Kept working the area the rest of the morning to no avail. Heard somebody spotted the porpoises about 6 miles south of us. Picked up and ran down but found nothing but a fleet of boats. After about an hour. We ran back up to the 490 and above and finished out our day without a nibble.
Not much to say except I think we were at the right place at the right time and I thnk we capitalized on our shots. As most of you know fishing was really tough all weekend. I want to thank my crew for a great job Friday. First the owners. My brother Cal Jr., his partner Keith, my Dad Cal Sr., and the rest of the crew Steve, Brian, and Frank. AWESOME job guys...........
Here's a couple of shots from the weekend.......
Thanks again to Bob and his whole staff for putting on a great tourn. once again........

WOW...nice work and even nicer check there guys! Way to go...always nice to "fish what you know" and find em' again. Love those gloves Cal is wearing...bought a pair last year and they are very nice...especially compared to the yellow/orange gumby gloves.

Great job Kelly,
Yeah that was us lett'en, people know about the fish. We had what we needed and were moving inside for a BFT. Thought some of the Charters and others would like to try their hand at these fish.
Wish we would have pulled out a 70# like you all. Shoot 10.5 more onces we would have been in the money.
Kelly, Calvin and Crew,
