    Default Flounder help

So we spent the weekend at Grays Point and hit the channel by the Cell this weekend for flatties. Had five lines in with pink, white and green on the three ways about a foot above anywhere from 16 to 32 onces of weight drifting. All med action rods with spnning reels and 20lb mono. Had the squid strip and Minnow combo going on all lines and were right around 41 (I think) in about 45-50' of water drifting about 1.5knt by the gps. There sure where a ton of boats there. Only boated 2 keepers all weekend and caught quite a few large Croaker Sat. WHen I got back to the camp, there were plenty of limits at the dock. My questions are with that much weight, how the heck can you tell the strike and where we set up right or should we change anything?

I am no expert but a few changes will help.
Use braded line and cut the weights back to just enough to reach bottom.. about 8 ozs..

Sound like you were using to much lead. Fished the same areas w/ 6 & 8's. Fish are scattered so when you catch one mark the spot and keep working that area.

If you drop down in weight that will help. But what really helps is going to braided line. You can really feel the "bite" with braid. When I feel it, I free spool to the count of eight and then lift the rod and start reeling. Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys, I thought that braided would get down there better but didn't have time to change over the reels. I am thinking about respooling and trying again Saturday a.m. Don't know if my buddy's camp is available but we'll see what we come up with. What am I looking for on the bottom finder? Drop offs and channel edges or just drift all over and see what happens?

I would concentrate on the edges, 45 to 60ft. Keep an eye on the other boats that stay shallower than you(east), if you see them catching fish adjust to that depth. Just watch the drops on your DF. If you are hanging alot you are in the mussel beds, thats where most of the fish are imo. If you pic up a fish, hit the mob and go thru again, they will concentrate in small areas. Good luck!
