The red drum bite is fantastic down there in August from what I hear. I've fished from Oriental in August and done real well.
Will be visiting Beaufort 9-11 AUG. Thinking of bringing poles and kayaks. Looking for any recommendations anyone could offer. Not looking to go to far, just work the inshore area - marshes etc. Any advise would be welcome.

Look at Capt Dave Disilvers (sp ?) Friday forecast in the Morehead paper. It's on line. With a Yak you can fish the Haystacks. They are the marshes off the ICW to the North of the Big bridge. Use the sand launch by the fishing pier as you go over the Morehead - Radio Island bridge. Pay attention to the tide It's a hard paddle against it. Get there on incoming leave on outgoing
You could also fish North River Marsh from the public launch on the East end of Beaufort by the old Menhaden dock. Either way you can stay in shallow water creeks and away from the boat fishermen. Most of them are bait fishing the deep channels anyway.
If it blows hard drive over to the Neuse river creeks. Calahouge creek from the Public launch just East of the Marine corps base and after the turn off for the Neuse River Ferry is good when it blows. Also the Orential side Neuse creeks are good for Puppy Drum and Specks.

Boats,
Thank you very much, really big help. I have never been down to this area. My wife wanted to go for a couple of days and I figured what the heck haul the yaks and poles and give it a try. This will make getting started in a new area a lot easier,
Thank you again.
