Can a rec crabber use both 1200' trotline and 30 traps at the same time?

I always thought one or the other.

I never new this.........................

It Shall Be Lawful For A Recreational Crabber With A License To Use
1. up to 1,200 feet per boat of baited trotline, with a float of the same color, size, and shape attached to each end; and
2. more than 10 but not more than 30 or a combination of 30 collapsible crab traps or crab net rings per boat; and
3. dip nets and any number of handlines; and
4. not more than 10 eel pots for catching your own crabbing bait.

I thought we answered this at the end of another thread. You have the answer. It's 1200' of line AND 30 Traps. Now you have another thread with sort of a question? What more needs to be discussed? It's pretty common and accepted knowledge. Frankly, it's one of the few rules posted by DNR online that's actually clear. It's legal. It's morally acceptable. You don't have to hide from anyone. You're safe. Really, you are. It's ok. Go crabbing.

The answer to your question is yes, a licensed rec crabber can use up to 1200 ft of trotline (measured as the distance between the two most distant baits) AND up to 30 traps and rings in combination. This is the gear limit for a single licensed crabber and it is the gear limit if more than one licensed crabber is on the vessel--you are not allowed to use any more gear no matter how many licenses are onboard the vessel. A recent thread beat this topic to death....

If more than one licensed crabber is on the vessel then you can keep up to two bushels.

YES! I recieved an EMAIL from the NRP just this morning that indeed 30 traps and 1200 ft of trotline IS legal to use at the same time. if you would like to read the EMAIL response, see my reply in the GUNPOWDER STILL KIND OF JUNKY thread..

Can you quote me the chapter and verse for the above?
All I ever have seen is "1200 feet of baited line".

Well, take 1200' of line, then add your baits. It's now a LOT shorter than 1200', so you no longer have 1200' of BAITED line.

Read COMAR (the LAW)....In section about Individual License it reads (a), (b), "or" (c)
In the section about boat license it reads (a) "or" (b).

This seems the clearest. Read it for yourself, then decide
