    Default Cape Henlopen?

My buddies are here on their fishing the 50 states tour. Caught fish in Va, WV & Maryland. Fishing Cape Henlopen on Sunday & Monday. Any suggestions on when, where, how and what flies would be greatly appreciated. If we catch fish in Delaware on Sunday we may try to fish in New Jersey on Monday. They've already fished PA. Any suggestions for fly fishing NJ? Somewhere close preferably?

    Thanks!

    Hey set,
You can wet wade at Cape henlopen state park, pay the daily enrty feea dn go up by the fishing pier of by the light house. expansive sand flats to fish. small clousers and an intermediate line will work. expect small flounder and croaker.

having said that, as a del resident, that is one of the worst fishing destinations in my state, IMHO. You'd probably do better at Indian River Inlet at night, although that's nothing special either this time of year. I'm sure some will disagree, but that whole area is just unproductive for the fly angler...

I kinda agree with strip strike. Fishing as a whole is tough this time of year. I just got back from a 2 week vacation in that area and fished C H as well as IRI a lot. the new jetty at navy crossing (in Cape Hen state park) looks real good. Only caught one Blue off of it, but, it is brand new. IRI is always a good bet. If you are just looking to catch a fish to check Del. off of your list there are plenty of "Secret" spots to tie into some schooley sise stripers. If you strike out on Monday, shoot me a pm, I will see if I can help out.

You guys are a little hard on my home town and state. You can always go to the surf the rays are hitting white and olive surf candies, boy they put up quite a battle on a 9wt. Other than that it really is slow i have caught a few small blues and some baby trout in the wash i have not been able to locate any schoolies yet in the surf but better day are coming i hope.

My home state too, just being realistic. Fishing is sloooooooooow this time of year. Have you tried the new navy crossing jetty yet? Fished it twice last week. One Blue about 3 pounds.

    Come on October!!!!

Oyster, I live in DE too. Made the run down there on more than a few occasions, during different seasons, and have nearly always regretted doing so. Just never had what I would consider a productive day fishing there.

Now, if your'e dunking bait, it's a different story. The canal and parts of the flats are pretty decent for flounder, croaker, and spot. Even some schoolie stripers, too. But, when it comes to the fly rod, it ain't Cape Cod!
