    Default Report-Overnighter

Well, we left the dock on my boat in the afternoon hoping to buddy up with Jimmy K and crew. Get 4 miles off cape Henry and we can only make 15kts at full throttle. Tried to hail Jimmy K and crew to inform of situation-sorry but was unable to reach you guys. Unloaded all of our gear/rations from my boat onto my buddy Steves 30 Grady. What a chore!Head back and are greeted by 15-20kts out of the SE. Again 15kt cruise. The trip out seemed like it would never end. Sky grew dark and was the coolest star filled sky I have ever seen. Sea state subsided and started fishing east of the cigar in 100 fathoms. Only one pull all night( I was asleep when that happened.). I was disapointed in not seeing any squid and no baitfish. We chummed, chunked and drifted squid and boston mackeral. We just wanted something. Nothing. Started on the troll about 5:15 and trolled right to a weed line that was less than a mile from where we drifted for swords. Picked up 3 dolphin(one gaffer) and a 50lb tuna. Missed a couple of bites then shut down. We couldnt buy a bite the rest of the day. Thanks to Kevin Bremmer for taking time to show me how to rig a squid and also Tim,Darren, JimmyK and Bill for your info. Luck just wasnt on our side. Im ready for the plain ole' billfish now.

David, thanks for the report. Hey you brought home some meat. Don't give up on the night fishing yet. Even if no pull all night long, you were in the right place at 5:15 am for trolling while most are still underway to the fishing grounds.

It may not have been the most productive trip in terms of fish, but it was by far one of the best times I've ever had, even if we all were walking zombies by the time we made it home. I learn something new every time I go out, and this was no exception.

Bottom line - we had a blast, returned to port safely, learned a lot, and caught some fish. The marlin aren't safe - we're already plotting our return.

We did not leave Rudee until around 1930 Friday night and was met with the same rough seas. Made for a long long ride to the Cigar! The stars were awesome but I was glad when the moon came up.

Sorry it wasn't your day......til next time.

Is your issues just bottom growth? This is the peak of growth season.
