Smile Took a long ride and pulled on a lot of fish Sunday 8/12

I've been wanting to head south but crummy weather prevented it; well yesterday was glorious so I ran from Deale down to Cedar Point (south side of mouth of Pax River). There was no rip but Walleye Pete was there having his clients tearing up the fish, deep jigging; then I noticed working birds and headed over there, nice blues and rock to about 19 inches (well, the blues were only to about 16 or 17 inches). Most on sp****g rods, a few on a fly rod with an intermediate line. Then I headed back up north, as Pete promised there were breaking fish around 40 feet, these were in front of CCNP. (Thanks, Pete. I still don't know why there was NOTHING visible, not even on the finder, on the way down.) Again, rock to barely legals and blues to about 16 or 17inches (maybe 2 pounds). At times the finder was black. Again, I used mostly a Rio Lake 7 full sink line, but I actually had 5 rods rigged (3 sp****g and 2 fly) and caught fish on all of them. Never saw a mack, which is what I was really hoping for. Then the breeze kicked up from the south and so I had a slow ride home.

Couple of lessons. 1. There are a LOT of fish down south. 2. It's a VERY long way to go from Deale for a day's fishing; Cedar Point is almost 30 nm from Deale. 3. That new (last year) HPDI motor really makes a difference; I ran 116 miles statute after my previous fillup and put 29.4 gallons in to fill up again.

Sounds like a pretty good day. From reading various posts on flyfishing the Bay this year it sounds as though the fishing is a bit better than it has been the last couple of years at least in that mid-Bay area.

I made a couple runs like that when I had my boat. While I do miss fishing the Bay, I don't miss burning over 50 gallons of gas between the boat and tow vehicle for a day's fishing.
