    Default Chipped Paint on Reel

Had my spool fall off of my reel and into the rocks (O.C. jetty) - oooch!!! Luckly, only one chip in the paint. I was wondering if I gently sanded the spot down and coated it with some "hard as nails" finger nail polish, if that would protect it enough from rusting? Any recommendations to help stop any rust from forming - thanks.

On one of my reels (granted it's only a SA), the paint has rubbed off almost the entire bottom. This mostly happens when I'm taking line out of the rod and have to lay the reel on the ground. It's been like that for 5 years and never rusted.

If it hit the salt, just clean it. Most reels are made of alluminum anyways but I could be wrong.

Dont know that any flyreels (maybe el cheapos) are made of anything other than aluminum so no rust to worry with like Salmo said. Aluminum will however oxidize or corrode but nothing that a little alum. polish or wax wont cure. A reel is a reel, just a tool sure you like em to like nice but whats the worry over a little battle scar every now and then.

Thanks for the help - sounds like nothing needs to be done.
