Default Lower Potomac & Smith Point area Monday

Caught some decent croaker, spot, and perch off Coles point on the morning tide. Later my neighbor and I headed down river - about 3:00pm. Spotted a few working birds and breakers near the mouth of the Yeocomico and cast chartruse double butterbean bucktails to them. Picked up several throwback stripers and some larger blues, got one double hookup with a 16" blue and a 12 - 14" striper, that gave a good pullage on medium action rod. Fish were feeding on glass minnows.

Went on down river and found a few more breakers near Lewisetta - picked up a couple more blues and a 12'' bunker that snagged his jaws on the line to a number two planer with Clark spoon we were trolling while casting

Went on to Smith point and trolled from near the light toward the south in 30 something feet of water. Picked up 2 undersized spanish macks and one blue. Used a number 2 planer with a red flash Clark about 150 feet back - caught 2 fish and lost one on it, and a number one planer with a gold Clark about 200 feet back - caught one fish on it.

Not the best day ever but far from the worst.

    Ben,

Nice to read a fish catching report. That was a long boat trip for you guys. We never saw any breaking fish on the surface this past weekend but we did troll and catch the spanish mackerel and some bluefish and jigged up some bluefish and a small flounder on the pink Stingsilver lures.

    Dave,
I spent about a week here, but could not fish every day because of having to attend a funeral in the DC area one day and weather and other family obligations a couple other days.

I did catch and release one 17" striper late one evening casting in skinny water near home, and got some decent sized spot, croaker and perch off Coles Point a couple of mornings.

Problem with the boat turned out to be a kink which formed in the gas line, maybe from tilt or trim.

I was disappointed we didn't get bigger/more Spanish yesterday, but the weather or the fact it was close to flood tide could have affected the bite.
