Got outa class early today so I made a trip to the range in Pungo to sight in the scope on my .50. Well it was a short sight in session for a M/L. I was shooting 240g TC Cheap Shot sabots over 100g of Goex FFg. At 50y my first 2 shot went about 7" high and 2" right. But they hit about 3/4" apart. Made and adjustment and shot 2 more. (Mind you, I ran a Traditions wonder lube patch between each shot. ) these 2 shots hit center but 1" low, so I fired a 3rd and hit low. This group was about 1". Happy to be on center yet low I moved to 100y for a final zero. Shot 3 and was about 4" low. Made the up adjustment and did 3 more. These 3 all in the orange (3"x3"). Shot another 3 for safety sake and bingo all 3 on the money. So all in all it took me a total of 13 shots to have it the way I want it. So knowing that with this bullet and 100g of powder worked well for me. I decided to tinker a bit at 100y and see what I could get with upping the powder 5g at a time with 3 shots till it wouldn't stay in the orange. I found that 110g kept me in the orange. 115g they hugged the upper edge with 2 in and 1 out. At this point I was low on bullets and wanted to save my last 10 for the quall this weekend. So I'm safe to say that even 115g is good but I'll stick with the 110g for now. I know It will still group well beyond but I'm going to set my max at 100y with this till I can tinker at farther ranges.
I also took the .54 along which is open sight. Was hitting 3" at 100y but had a 5 shot group about 6". Not so happy with that. I may take it out just to see how hard it hits if given a shot. I'm using 425g lead conicals over a wad and 110g of Goex FFg. It kicks like a 12g as is. But it groups the same with 100-110g.
