In the price range of a 1715 it consistently rates in the number 1 spot. I have one and once you learn it, you'll wonder how you lived without it.
I'm thinking buying a Furuno 1715 for the old boat. I'd like to have a reliable radar but I can't see myself spending much more than the 1715 costs new. Does anyone use the 1715? Any other recommendations in the general price range?

Thanks Brett... Did you buy the tower to go with it?

I have an older 1621 and for can't say enough great things about it! Also, Furuno is a good company and stands behind their systems.
Actually, I bought the "tower" on e-bay. The radar came from BOE Marine. You can find them here. BOE Marine
However, I would suggest shopping around on the net for the best price to include delivery charges. There are some dependable stores on E-bay as well.
I am new to bay fishing. What are the advantages of having radar?
To keep you from crashing into or being run over when a fog bank rolls in or fishing at night!
It can get like pea soup out there in the blink of an eye especially in spring and fall.
