Have a Polaroid 32" HD digital tv and Comcast digital hook-up. When I go to the higher HD channel the picture seems futher away to the extent that I prefer watching non-HD. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks!

Not quite sure or able to picture what you mean by further away. My only first suggestion would be to check how the TV is formated. On my set, standard broadcast come in at 480P and has borders on both sides of the picture. When I watch a HD broadcast, it comes in at 1080i and fills the whole screen. Did you add this HD set using your old cable box or do you have a new one that is HD capable. I'm on satellite so I am only able to know how that works as compared to cable.
It could be the view. My HDTV has a stretch, sidebar, superstretch options. It's a button the remote but there is also a setting in the tv menu where you can set the default. Are you using an HDMI cable or big flat wide cable?

The reason it looks like that is that the HD is in a higher resolution, which "tight'ens" up the picture, making the the objects appear a bit smaller, but actually gives you a larger veiwing area.
Example, if you are watching a football game in standard format the picture will show a coverage area say from the goal line to the 20 yard line. That same frame in HD will show a coverage area from the goal line out to the 25 yard line (panned out so to speak), with the objects being a tad bit smaller but much better resolution and clarity.
Another good example would be to watch a basketball game in both formats and compare the view. The same frames will show a big difference of the fans in the background and the veiwing area.
