Default Offshore from Oregon Inlet or Teach's Lair in Hatteras?

I was wondering if it was worth trailering all the way to Hatteras or if going out of OI would be just as good, I have a place on MP5. I'm new to the offshore game (Usually fish the 3 bridges). But can now make the trek with my boat. Any suggestions/ advice?

I think right now I would go out of Rudee Inlet to the Canyon or Cigar. But in a couple of weeks O.I. for sure.

hatteras is a shorter run(usually) by boat to decent fishing, but if you have a problem(need parts or tow or anything else) it gets complicated.

oregon is a shorter tow to the ramp....longer run to fishing

either way, WATCH THE WEATHER oregon inlet is a pain on a east wind, and hatt is the same on a southeast wind.

The answer your looking for can be found on any sea surface tempture map. Just plot the distances to the "real blue water". Then ask yourself: "If you were a fish, where would you like to be?"
Also check out the photos of the fishing reports from RI, OI and HI throughout the year. The pictures don't lie. More fish, and bigger fish caught out of OI and HI than RI.

I would recommend OI. The fishing out of there is getting ready to be real good and the Hatteras Fleet and VB Fleet will be coming to fish OI grounds. I have heard reports of guys marking the fish, but they have not started bitting yet. Your house is in OI and the run from OI Fishing Center to the grounds is not much further than going out of Hatteras.
