So the past 48 hours have been a little strange. I got a call on Tuesday afternoon that confirmed tickets for Game one of Red Sox VS Angels in Fenway on Wednesday. With a quick nod from my wife we agreed to beg the in-laws to watch Abby so we could fly off for the game. The answer was yes.
Hopped on the US.Air shuttle Wednesday morning, land in Boston for lunch and a quick nap at my folks house before the game. We meet the ticket “source” at Harvard Square and make it down to Yawkey way by 5:30 for a 6:30 game.
Beckett spanks the Angles and we start home in the 8th inning. Get a call from dad who says, “what time is your flight in the morning” – this is going to be good, I think. So I look at Megan and she gives me this look of “you’re joking, right?!” as she obviously knew that this was a call for “man time” with dad and Norm.
5 am rolls around awful fast when the top water bite is on. We make it to the marina a little after 6am and the birds aren’t flying. Only things doin' anything are the BKDs on the bottom. Sun starts to rise, tide begins to drop and “boom”, out of nowhere the water starts to boil. First few fish are smaller sized–maybe up to 24 inches that are intrigued by the rattles of the ¾ ounce Mini Mega Eyes.
We move a little deeper and we begin to see some bigger backs coming up for the bunker and start to really hear the popping of feeding stripers and blues. I decided to change over to a 1 ounce Spook with a red head for a more slithery retrieve and it pays off. I see a surface boil then a tail slap about 25yards out – looks decent, so I toss the plug beyond the action and start to walk the dog. Two twitches into the retrieve and he takes it! He runs then turns sideways in the current and hangs. I’m playing this guy on a 10lb Quantum set up and the tide/current’s not in my favor – anyhow, I force the issue and thumb the drag to pull him in. Comes onto the boat at 31 inches. Not a monster, but let’s remember, I should be in the office on my second cup of coffee by now!
With that, we call it a day, hop on the shuttle back home with a bloody mary in hand and a wife whose only complaint was to simply not be so loud at 5 am when leaving her to sleep in!
Lure of the day was: Attachment 3856
