I checked out the new Gander Mountain in Ashland today .It has alot of different things and a gunsmith which could come in handy. There was a big selection of guns and scopes. The scopes are on stocks that you can hold and look through. That I like.
Looks like they have alot of rods and reels.
The one thing I'll be back at Greentop for is fishing lackle.Greentop has them beat on the selection of salt water tackle.
Anybody else check them out yet and what did you think?
I saw their ad for big discounts on O/U shotguns from Beretta and Browning with MSRP up tp $2499.99. I decided I needed a real trap gun instead of shooting trap with my flat shooting field gun. So I drove there from White Stone on Saturday, the second day of the sale, which was advertised as running through Oct. 17th. No deals on trap guns. They had some good Beretta's and Browning O/U, but they said they had sold out their supply on Friday of the sale priced guns, except for a lower quality gun. They still had several Browning XT trap guns, but they were at full retail. I also noticed some lower priced guns at prices considerably higher than Greentop and Dick's. I looked over their saltwater fishing display without buying and then went back to Greentop to buy a few things.
The sales clerk was friendly and courteous to me, but he didn't know the difference between an O/U and a S/S when he tried to find a gun that the computer said was in stock. I was disappointed in the pricing at the store. I guess I saved a lot of money by not being able to buy a new trap gun on sale.
My conclusion is that I probably won't be shopping at GM unless they have a sale and then I won't be going except when I have planned a trip to Greentop, Degoff's, and Dick's. The GM store in Fredericksburg was much better on my only trip to that store. I hope the New Richmond GM gets a lot better.

Everyone that I have talked to said that their prices even their sale prices were more that at Greentops. You would think that being much bigger they would try and be cheaper but I guess not. I think their quality of stuff especially their hunting clothes doesn't compare to Greentops.
The quality of the Gander Mountain in Fredericksburg has basically declined since it got there. Their saltwater selections stinks and their ammo selection it hit or miss. They have 100 times more than they need of one thing and none of others. The employees are usually somewhat knowledgeable but I still end up leaving empty handed and pissed off - much like after a trip to Walmart. I haven't done much gun shopping so don't know.
BTW - I would rather go to Green Top and I am in Fredericksburg
I think in some areas it will impact GreenTop. I think GT will actually benefit from people leaving GM dissatisfied and going across the street to find the help and information they want or need.
