I remember last years bear hunt, what a joke... No kills and only one spotted crossing the road the entire week.

SUFFOLK - The first black bear hunt in the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge ended without a kill.

At least a few hunters saw a bear Saturday, but nobody shot one, refugee manager Suzanne Baird said.

One hunter saw a bear from about 180 yards but did no t feel confident enough to shoot at that distance, Baird said.

Between 250 and 350 bears are thought to live in and around the 111,200 -acre refuge. A lottery awarded $50 permits to 58 hunters, who were restricted to two areas totaling 21,000 acres.

High water made moving around in the swamp difficult for the hunters during the two-day hunt.

Supposidly the DS NWR is #2 in the state for bear per sq-mile ratio's. I was deployed in Kuwait last year so I never heard anything about it.
How does it work. Is it tree stand only with slugs? You get to pic and area or its picked for you? Be knice to have some more info on it. Can't seem to get any from DGIF.

yea i was in the cut over that day off of corapeake. lots of deer action and thats not where i usually hunt. im usually in the back right block of corapeake and ive seen deer come out everytime with good shots. I think it helps a lot with the more scouting u do. the swamp is a "u pick where you want to hunt" kinda place but please be curtious to hunters alredy set up by not flyin down the roads and by not slammin doors.
