    Default Zap'em update

It really works great but we have noticed that after zapping the first bushel the water gets filthy . I guess the shock jolts all the mud off of them or as some have said maybe the crabs shit themselves as they die .

That slows up the process if you have more than a bus. .You probably should change the water in the barrel each time . Maybe we could squirt them off good with a hose first before we put the bushel in . I'll have to try that next time .

All crabs are just very dirty - has nothing to do with the electric. Put a bushel in there and let them sit for the same amount of time without zapping them, the water will probably be just as dirty. Don't worry about it - the dirt will help conduct the electric.

Glad it is working so well guys!

I plan to keep to my ice method though. Just cuz I am a Chicken Neckka!

Have a great rest of the season and hope the waters up north keep you in crabs a long time.

If you don't go, you won't know and you gotta have bait in the water!
I have terminal Crabiteis and there is no hope.

Steve ,Thanks again . George made a real fancy, nice one and he used [I think] 8 gauge ground that a fellow crabber told him works fine .

Mikie . I thought the same thing about the dirt . I still think I would change the water if I zapped another bus. . They would be breathing in all that dirt before you zapped them . Plus maybe it is some of there crap in there . If I got zapped like that I'm sure I would probably shit myself .Then again I am crabbing in Back River !!!.

Hey Mikie ,I just remembered this. The first time I did a 2nd bus. in the dirty water and would you believe it took twice as long to kill them . I thought also that the dirt and the salt from 1st bus. would have conducted more too but it didn't .

Oh well It's a learning experience . I hope next year they run as good as they did this year in the upper bay so I get plenty of practice .

Sounds like you should call this the "ZAP N CRAP " method.

Think how dirty the water would be in your bathtub, if someone put salt, and electrical current into it.......almost guarantee there'd be some crap floating.

Rip Zap n Crap Good one

Maybe I shouldn't have posted about the crap thing . Lots of crab places are doing the zap thing and I'm sure they don't change the water often . Could turn some people off to those places . Then again I'm sure they let go when that steam hits them too . I'm getting in deeper . I had better stop before I get bad replies from some saying I turned them off to crabs because they never thought of that before . Actually I do know someone who won't eat them because of that .

Creulty to Crabs! Cruelty to Crabs!

Catch em zap em and eatem or catchen ice em and eatem. Eitherway they are going to get steamed and that isnt any better than zapping or icing Right?
