Anybody know what's involved in getting a commercial license for crabbing? Is it
true that if you hav a boat license that you can get 2 bushels so long as somebody
on the boat has their own license?
I believe there is a long, long waiting list for the comm. crabbing license.
Some licenses are now available without any wait. however the apprenticeship requirements must still be completed.
the number of LCC (limited crab catcher) and OYH(oyster harvester) that are now active is below the state mandated cap for that type of license. they are available imediatly to those that have completed their apprenticeship requirements. previously there was a 2 year wait for licenses.
or you can also purchase a license , which willl not require any wait
RJ ,Have you heard anything lately as to how much the LCC is going for ?
Tony
the cheapest asking price that I have seen recently was $3500
for an LCC. it was probably just a license with minimal gear at best. but I don't know what was the final selling price, it could have been less. remember that there is a minimum price ($2000 )I believe is the number that is set by the dnr.
I would expect to see a few licenses on the market this winter, especially in light of the last poor crabbing season .
i just purchased a lcc in the begining of sept. and paid 4,200. for it. if you see one for 3,500 it is a good deal.it will cost me about nine hundred a year to renew it because i am not a resident of maryland. if you reside in md it is 60 bucks.to buy one from somebody you have to have three people sign the paperwork who are licensed watermen who you worked with.
Thanks for the info folks!
