Harco Dad fishing pullage.......Thursday

Met with the young Dad ( John ) who wanted to learn to fish, and teach his son ( Bryan ), the basics of fishing, since they had very limited experience with this. We agreed to meet in the Forest Hill area, after school hours, ( 5 PM ) and take the opportunity to explore the possibilites of catching some fish, in a local pond. The drive was short, and only lasted abouyt ten minutes, the rods / reels were rigged, and as soon as Bryan had his bait in the water, the bobber dissappeared, a small catfish obliged , and was soon released ( after Dad took a picture, of course, Bryan's smile said it all ). I did not see John's smile, but I could feel it was there too. Everytime Bryan put his baited hook over the rail, a fish would eagerly take the hook, this went on for about 20-25 minutes........non-stop, and after releasing about 15- of Bryan's fish. It took me longer to un-hook, and release these fish, than it did for Bryan to catch another one.

It dawned on me that John also did not know how to fish either, so as soon as I could rig up John's rod / reel, I figured it would be best for him to learn how to cast with his rig. It didn't take very long for John to seemingly master the operation / timing of using a closed face bait-caster. Young Bryan continued for another 25-30-minutes catching a fish, almost as soon as he dropped his line in the water. I would guess that in about 1-hour, that Bryan caught at least 32- fish..........., and three different varieties, bluegills, crappies, and catfish. quite the mixed bag , and plenty of pullage, for his first fishing trip. All fish were released to catch another day .
I would believe that after this adventure, even though the fish were small, that John and his son Bryan are now hooked on fishin' ! !
It was my pleasure to meet John and Bryan, and look forward to working with them again.
If anyone get the chance to take them, I know they will appreciate the opportunity, as they are eager to explore the bounty that our area has to offer.

John contacted my by email on 10/17 asking for some help and within a week, he and his son are fishing for the first time - -That's why I enjoy working with Wish-A-Fish so much .

You guys had some serious pullage action going on there - - hope you told John and Bryan that it's not always "fast and non-stop" action - - no pressure on the next person who takes them fishing

The place I took them will almost always provide pullage, for some small fish, the pond is stocked, and is a great location for fishing action. It is a public location, and will provide for many happy hours for both of them, while they practice their skills / techniques, plus I told them in the Spring the pond is stocked with a nice size rainbow trout, and those are nice eating fish. This location is also very close to where they live, and is only one of three places that I can direct them to, and will in the next few weeks, as time permits.

I gave them a canvas bag, and each of them a shirt / hat, and they were tickled to get them. John ( the Dad ) showed me a scar, where he had undergone cancer removal surgery, of the thyroid, and it was while he was recovering from this that he wanted to explore / enjoy more of his son. They both have had some hurdles in life to overcome.

I also want to show them where / how they can rent ( inexpensively ) a row boat / motor, and access the Gunpowder State Park ( Dundee Creek / Gunpowder River ). I know this
area is a good place to access also. I am going to recommend that John take a "Safe Boater's Course" before attempting this, though.

does anybody know of a place that you can rent a small boat to fish the Severn River?Please let me know.Better yet,if you have a small boat and want to go perch fishing(no bait used) call me at 410-484-2786.White pewrch fishing is great all year long on the Severn.

I take it by the posting we are suppose to go out with you guys this weekend. We just had a death in the family and I need to run up to Buffalo NY (yes that Buffalo land of the ice and snow etc... got great small mouth bass fishing there too I hear.) So I am not availble this weekend Next weekend is open I am working 3 12's in a row.

Not a problem sorry for your loose and you guys have next Sat and Sunday with us fishing the Flats but the blindfolds come out and I do believe your going to get the Pure pleasure of fishing the hottest Eeling spots around the Upper Bay ! Fish pulled out Sat were 28,28,32,35 so get strong and have Brian ready to have some fun !
