New PB @ the GAP (Dutch)...10Nov07

Head out the drive way at 0430 in a drizzle rain.....radar seemed to be clearing before I left the house. Yea right, by the time I crossed the HRBT it was a down pour and traffic was bumper to bumper~ at 5 am on a Saturday ? WTF over. Rain,rain & more rain all the way to the boat ramp......I rolled up at 6:05 and Steve (cataholic) already had the boat launched and warming up setting there in the pitch dark. Air temp was 42 and foggy,drizzle.......headed down river in 55* water temp and dropped the net and got 8 shad and off we went.......got set up by 7 and the these guys hit like they were starved !! In the next 4 hours we caught a dozen fish that went 14,16,18,18,16,15,12,14,15,14,16 and a 15LB'r not a dag gone fish over 20 pounds :o( ...then Steve's next fish went 27 or so pounds and we were closing in on 30 pounds but so far had like 210 pounds in just under 4 hours......fished until we had 1 baitfish left and then we were going to move to another spot.......as the rod in front of me danced and slammed rod tip straight down, I said "you want this one ?" Steve replied : "no go ahead I got the last one".......this brute was heading south in a hurry and heading to deep water, it took some serious UMMPHH to stop the fish and turn it back my way.......Steve gets the net ready and I get the lug to the boat.....and on the scales it goes.....47 POUNDS !!! A new peronal best for this gal.....the camera was acting up so all pics were taken on my cell phone.....hugged and kissed the big whiskered love of mine and sent her back to where she came from.....the mighty James River !! ......headed back to get more bait and netted another 12 for Steve's trip with the Mrs tomorro and we headed in by 1PM ........what an awesome day on the water indeed.

WTG on the personal best, Jamie. I was out 2 wks ago and couldn't buy a big fish. Hardly caught any babies. Glad to see the bite is get'n better..........................

Way to go Jamie!!! 3 more pounds and you can shave your stash. Looks like you guys had fun. Lots of fish there, did you have any doubles? Duh!! on my mistake, you're holding two fish up in the photo and I ask if you had any doubles.

thanks for the report looks like fun. I have yet to find that type of fish in the river.

Congrats Jamie! I've never caught so many "teeners" like you mentioned - that's a rather unusual. Cataholic must have set up on quite a spot.

Oh yes it was a beautiful morning drizzle overcast. Jus the way a catman likes it. Get there early (thats a first for me) put the boat in Jamie arrives load his stuff lots of huggs and kisses. Then we put the motor in gear. We were on our way. NOT The motor starts acting up again jus like before. Sh-t Sh-t Sh-t!!! tinkered with it for about a mile while Jamie drove just above an idle, then gave up trying to figure it out. Told Jamie we were out we wasn't going back! Pull over here and we'll get bait. Dropped the net got bait. Rode a half mile setup on a good spot in 15' of water and it was on! Like he said it was constant action. We never got to set down. I teared up when we lost another two monsters in some structure. We had a great day even with the broken motor and 20mph wind! Congrats to Jamie on his new PB. He is one hell of a fisherman and is welcome on my boat anytime. He makes one hell of an anchorman. Oh and he makes one hell of a ham samich too... Thanks alot Jamie for the great day!!!!

great job on the big cat Jamie and most of those "Small" ones would have been a blast for anyone to catch. My PB is only 16 lbs so it would have been a blast. I still have got to get with you on one of these CAT trips. Congrats again on the fine catch.

Steve I've been trying to get up there all summer and fall. I've had one set back after the other. My fishing buddy couldn't get off from work long enough for a trip then his wife had a baby. Another buddy fell out of a tree stand and broke his arm and foot. Another buddy was out of work all summer and we had a trip planned when out of the blue they called him for a new job and he wasn't even looking for one. Then my well went dry and my tractor had a clutch burned out. The well and tractor set me back about $7500 so the boss (my wife) can't see me forking any recreational $$ out right now. I've had a motel booked twice this summer and fall but had to cancell. I'm chomping at the bit to get up there but don't know when it'll happen. Ya'll keep catching 'em for me and have a good time.

Like I told you before Moe. All you have to do is show up here at the house even bring a friend if you like. I got 2 extra bedrooms and a camper setup jus for company. You don't need to bring nothing but warm clothes. Tell me what weekend your coming and I plan on it! It's an open invitation..
