Fished Saturday and Sunday morning between #8 and #13 caught a coule of shorts.
I was looking in 20-60 feet of water. On a tip from a neighbor I started looking in less than20 ft ..Worked like charm!
I went out @ 3PM on Sunday and had three keepers in the boat within the hour ( One went back of course)
I changed my spread a little and pulled a tandem( parachute with a small bucktail) .This caught two of the fish. I think it will become a permanent part of my spread. All fish caught coming from 15 feet into 19 feet of water.
I will be @ it again next weeekend..I answer to Novastriper and am always on 68...Give me a shout if you are out there
I fished the BEUMM Rockfish Derby this weekend and I got SKUNKED in the Rappahannock! This is the first year that's happened to me during the derby. I never win anything but I've never gotten skunked before. A lot of the prizes went unawarded because there weren't enough fish caught. In the end even an 18" fish would've won a prize.
We fished a little while on Friday morning but the wind and waves were building as the day went on so it stopped being fun very quickly. We gave up pretty quickly. We fished again on Saturday and the weather couldn't have been better. The fishing was great... The catching wasn't so good.
I fished the edges from #8 to #11 with just about every colour of the rainbow and didn't get a single hit. I didn't mark any big balls of bait. The only bait seemed to be scattered in very small schools. Those lazy birds were just sitting on the water all day doing nothing!
The derby winners all caught their fish on "The Hills" just upriver from the mouth of Urbanna Creek... I didn't try there.
I'm all rigged up and ready to go again. I'll be back out there next weekend.

You arn't alone. We were out Friday and Saturday in the same area, fishing the same tournament. We were on the 32 ft Trojan Chock Full Of Nuts Friday we didn't pick up anything and headed in between 1 and 2. Saturday was slow until around 1:30-2 and we got into a few between 18 and 22 inches and kept 3. Maybe next time.
I wish you had given me a shout we were upriver from you between #19 and #12. It was slow but steady in the afternoon. We couldn't get anything over slot size but heard of a couple of reports of above the slot caught in the area. I fished #11 on Wed and only picked up one fish after good results over the previous weekend in that area. We changed the spread on Sat to fish high and low with equal results.
