Visiting in June 2008

Hello All, I live in New Jersey and fish the Delaware Bay often with an occasional trip in the ocean. I am planning a fishing trip next June for a week Good Lord willing. I am hoping to target cobia and red drum. I have a 23' W/A Seaswirl Striper. Will probably be in the middle of the month but my time is flexable. I'm looking into possibly staying in the Cape Charles area if there are accomodations available. My question is this; Will I be able to target the species of fish I mentioned? If not, what will I be getting that time of the year? How far is it to the CBBT from Cape Charles? Any motel suggestions? Last question, couple of my co-workers have vacationed at the Cherry Stone campground and stated that I can rent a cabin for a week. Anyone have any knowledge of this? Hi Calvin - You're making a great choice travelling to the CBBT! Don't forget to give the trophy flounder a try while you're there by live lining spot around the bridge structure.

As far as accommodations go... your best bet will be to stay at the Kiptopeke Inn which is just south of Cape Charles. You'll be literally a minute from Chris's Bait and Tackle and the Kiptopeke boat ramp which is as close as you can get to the bridge on the eastern shore side. Tell the hotel you're a memeber of TidalFish and you'll get a discount (they are a sponsor of TidalFish)

Others can probably give you better fishing information, however, I've done a lot of research on lodging since I travel down from PA two or three times per year.

Also, I would stay away from Cherrystone. It's a nice campground but the cabins are very small and a jammed together. I was there once with my wife and kids and I doubt I'd go back and rent another cabin again because of how small it was. If there's only two of you then it would probably be ok though I'd still stay at Kiptopeke.

Shaggy, thanks for the reply. I've been all over this forum and it's great. Went on the lower Maryland link and found even more info. I fish the Delaware Bay often with much success and looking forward to next year to fish the CBBT. definitely a good time to come down for both species. lattimer shoals is on the e.side & popular. around the 12 mile marker outgoing hot, blue fish rock very good. chumming & chunking is my way but some guys troll for them, some cast live spot to the down current side of the channel markers. cut bait, eels, spot, sea mullet all good bait. picked up 2 citation drum in less than 30 minutes 1 day in june cobia fishing using sea mullet. good luck!

Tony, I have been reading about "citation" fish in many of the threads on this forum. Don't actually know what the phrase means, but assuming it means legal fish. Am I correct? Thanks for you reply. I am compiling a folder with everyone's suggestions for my trip next year. Hopefully with you guys help, this won't be my last.

Cal - Citation is another word for trophy size. Virginia will award you a certificate at the end of the year for a trophy size fish. For example, if you catch a striper over 40 lbs and have it weighed on a certified scale you can submit some paperwork and the state will recognize the catch and send you a certificate. If you were to catch a striper and release it it would have to be at least 44 inches to get the citation. Here's a link with all the info you'll need:
