January yak run to CBBT

I wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone had any interest in taking the kayak out near CBBT sometime after the holidays. I just got a yak this year and managed to break it in at IBSP back in the spring. I've never fished CBBT (gasp!) and would love to meet up with any fellow TFers if people are interested. Drop me a bmail or respond to the thread if you might want to go. (Guess I should throw this post on the kayak board as well, duh.) Regardless, I think I'll probably head down there for a couple of days myself in January and may solicit some advice if no veterans feel like tagging along. Best,

I have the two weeks off from 12/21/07 to 1/6/08 (teacher, winter break) and hope to drag my kayak down to the CBBT for a day or two...but I'm going to wait for a slug of good weather, as I'm wimpy about yakking in the cold. I'll let you know, as I'd much rather have a partner than going alone.

I've done it once before and caught some decent fish, but nothing huge. Let me know if you have any questions, I might be able to help you out.

I live in Richmond but would be more than happy to come down and fish the CCBT as long as the weather is good. I have fished the HRBT and the surrounding area and its great.

Make sure you post up on Tidewater Kayak Anglers Association (tkaa.org). Some guys fish the CBBT and can give you some pointers. I fly-fish the HRBT(Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel) in my kayak. You can launch at Willoughby public ramp and it is about a 15 minute paddle to the bridge. You can easily catch 40 to 50 schoolies a night out there on the fly-rod. The day time hours can be good as well. For the CBBT you can launch at Seaview Ave. You need wheels or a cart unless you feel like dragging the kayak 200 yards across sand. Don't overlook the HRBT. It is really easy to fish and pretty much a sure thing in the light line when the current is going.

I may be able to make it down sometime between 12/29 - 12/31, if you don't mind a spinning gear fisherman tagging along . I've never fished CBBT either.

I love fishing the CBBT via yak, though my yak has been neglected recently. I've been to the 3rd island launching from the western (southern) shore a few times, so it's definitely do-able if you pick your days.

Be aware that the tide/current can be very strong there. Strong enough that paddling against them will barely hold your position. During strong moon/tide phases, you will need to plan to ride with the tide, especially if launching from the Eastern Shore (Kiptopeake or Sunset Beach).

The eeling at the concrete ships, and out beyond (much closer than the bridge itself) has been really hot this year.

Put me down for a "maybe" on a yak trip.

I am scheduling a trip with a few friends for Jan 12th/13th. we are mostly spin-fishers, and we'll be sticking to the ships, jigging BAs, etc. if that weekend works for you, let me know. we are coming from the baltimore area.
