How about this one: A buddy of mine and a bunch of his out-of-town buddies fished with a charter captain out of Lynnhaven last weekend. They KEPT 3 fish in the low-mid 30lb range and he applied for RELEASE citations for fish over 44"! Unbelievable. Sure enough their names were in the Daily Press Friday. What a moron. You'd think all of the charter guys would appreciate the intent of the release citation, but I guess there's a bad apple in every batch.
As a side note, we caught some nice fish just north of Craney Friday afternoon near the Middle grounds under birds. The 3 we kept were 21-27lbs.

It would be pretty sad ( but not a surprise) if this is true. A charter captain should hold themselves above liars and cheats. However you find them in all professions.

You dont have to take an ethics test to get a capts lic. heck, you dont even have to know how to operate a boat (well on paper you do).

I would be surprised if the charter capt signed off on the release paperwork. All you need is a buddy to sign it as a witness. More believeable is each customer signed off on each others. There are some release citations sent in and they didn't even go fishing. No way for VMRC to verify other than a phone call to the witness.

What a joke... Who was the charter captain/ what boat? That is a disgrace and there is absolutely no way this guy can say it was accidental.

Amen Capt Joe. This boat should be named publicly for doing such an act if it truly occurred. The citations in question should be reported to the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament. It amazes me what people will do for a piece of paper.

I looked on their site and did not see anything reported on Friday the 14th.

I was not able to pull the entire paper up for the 14th but I did click on their fishing reports.


It had a ton of citations listed but no dates or boat names.

The closest report I saw was for Thursday, December 13th. I am not sure if that included citations going back to last weekend or not.

lets hope all of the facts are out here & if they are then a deliberate attempt to break the rules should be treated harshly. but how many guys were there, was it enough to keep three and release some citations or did they all get one? did the captain do this or is he reading it here for the 1st time? i think more questions need answering before judgement is passed.

Do you recognize any of your friends names on the list of citations aquatic therapy ?


I guess since your friend and his fishing buddy's are aware of the situation, they have called and had the citations cancelled. ??
