12/17/07 Atlantic Ocean Fishing Report

Fishing daily from the wharf at Long Bay Pointe Bait & Tackle, Lynnhaven, VA Beach, VA

After 2 days of horrifying 40 knot plus winds we hoped to get a break today. We moved our trip from 0600 to 1400 back to 0800 to 1600 in attempt to let the winds settle down some. That was certainly the key word "some". we were greeted bya stiff NW breeze trolling at the green can at Cape Henry today. We talked it over and our fishing party agreed to give it a try. The hearty crew today was put together by Mr. Bill Davis and friends for a total of 8 anglers. "Ralph" and "Earl" went along, as well (see below pictures). The wind blew the biting fish offshore again today - ARRRRGGGGHHHHH! Mr. TJ Reiber of NOVA served as 1st Mate today.

Once again, there were huge flocks of Northern Gannets 3 or 4 miles to the east of the 3 mile line and we were relegated to just watch them work hard all day! We worked our butts off but struggled all day only catching 7 Striped Bass ("Rockfish") and 3 Slammer Bluefish on the day. This has been a very strange year in that the vast majority of fish have remained offshore outside the 3 mile line. Very frustrating!
