Will Gorilla glue work for glueing the handle on a new rod? I have used Epoxy, but was thinking of using Gorilla Glue. Has anyone tried this or is it not recommended?
gorilla glue is very strong but lacks flexibilty AND the stuff expands and foams out like a rabid dog,,,having just changed out grips on a brand new G loomis UL I did use a TINY bit of Gorilla when I inserted the rubberized cork ring I used as a decorative add where I spliced the new handle when I shortened it to fit the 5 ft wand...it took me 20 min just to sand down the glue that oozed out...it does a decent job but I'd still rather work with a good epoxy...there's a two part semi paste epoxy that I get ( actually I bumm it) from my local rod repair guy that takes a good 40 - 60 min to set that is outstanding...I think Mud Hole carries it, its fantastic for EVA...makes the stuff slide on wonderfully easy...used it to glue up my custom 7 ft Bridge Shark BEASTIE STIK and its held up to all thats come its way so far
I have tried the quick set glue one my first rod building attempt and nearly destroyed the blank. I have used the two part epoxy U-40 Rod Bond and really like it. It is easy to work with and clean up.
Keep that stuff away from your fishing gear. Foam expansion, makes a mess and is brittle. Good for wood working cause you can sand off the mess.. teribble for fishing gear
I used the stuff on a bamboo rod to glue the reel seat down, somehow water got in there, swelled up the reel seat and demolished the Gorilla Glue. Seems brittle
Another good one is "Quick Grip" by Beacon Adhesives. I've used this on tons of stuff over the years with good results, and it's a single component product; no 2 part expoxies to mix.
From the tube I'm looking at right now, "Quick Dry, water and weather proof, flexible and paintable, crystal clear."
