Just finished it, very interesting, certainly contrasts the tuna wrangler concept being portrayed on discovery. Pretty sad.

Maybe the whole clip will run eventually...this looks like an excerpt.

    I'm glad they aired it.

the issue is not banning the issue is policing. Just like the dude with the binoculars said. Spotter planes have been banned but he still see them every all the time. I have some pics of one of thes boats hauling in venezuela. I'll see if I can dig them up.

exactly. The fish police over here are all over you for our 1000 metric ton quota - best guess is they are keeping WAY over their quota, up to 60 times our allocation. Q is - how do you police so many different fleets?

    Thumbs down Purse seiners

I watched it tonight & it's pretty much what I thought, technology & lack of common sense paired with god old fashioned greed is gonna finish the oceans fishes off species by species. But I suppose in this day & age everything has a price. Just think what things are gonna be like by 2018. $7.00+gal. fuel & nothing left to catch but Dogfish & Bluefish.
I just got back last night and I'm already planning the next adventure.

Only the truly ate up understand the maddness.

Half the time the company just registers the boat in a country that has plenty of quota, or in a port that is not policed. They can also transfer an entire cargo hold from one ship to another while at sea to avoid port (more of a convenience because no one is standing on the docks counting tonnage in the Third world, anyway). The second boat goes right to Japan, with no regulation whatsoever.

How many Tuna boats do you think all those little African countries have along the gold coast? A lot are registered there, and the countries are more than willing to allow them to fly their flags for a registration fee. Many two-bit third world countries with a deepwater port have a handful of sizable boats flying their flags-for the sake of using their quota (what is on the books anyway)-all totally legal under ICAAT
