Anyone have advice on DIY fishing on Eleuthera
A few of us are tyring to make our first trip to the Bahamas this spring in search of the gray ghosts and are thinking about a do it yourself flats/bonefish trip to the Out Island of Eleuretha. Would appreciate any advice from fellow fly fishermen who have fished the bahamas, specifically Eleuthera is possible.
Haven't been there myself, but a friend had a good time there. Here's an email he sent me:
The place we stayed in Eluethra was the Laughing Gull. There are tons of bonefish in the bay in town. There is a large wall that circles the bay you can walk on and look down on the water and see the fish. This was the best place I've seen for bones. They were in schools, singles, tailing and were in a sand bottom which helped. I also fished the mangros which also had a bunch of bones.
MD there is a nice flat in the Savannah Sound. Also, try the flat right by the airport. There is an English guy who has a web site with extensive info. Google boebfish and Eluethra and I'm sure it will come up. Don't neglect the ocean side, less flats there but plenty of shallow bays and reef areas with jacks, cudas, permits, small groupers and the like.
