I am going to be in Corolla for 2 weeks in the middle of May and will have fishing stuff with me. Last year I remember catching some small Blues and plenty of Skate. I am kind of new to Surf fishing but wanted to check out my options. Going offshore or probably even boating will not be an option. How is the pier and fishing anywhere from Corolla to Oregon Inlet usually this time of year? Thanks for your input.

If you're interested in fishing lessons we offer Surf Fishing "Quick Start" 1 1/2 hour evening classes each Monday night June/July/ august at TW's Nag's Head. We also have a multitude of other fishing instruction programs specific to the Outer Banks.

Truly, the better fishing is in the sound thattime of year..do you have a kayak? In the surf you're looking at croakers and spot with an occasional pompano. Two bottom rigs with blood worms in the surf. The sound requires more explanation.

    Good luck.

I'll be down to Rodanthe last week in May. I thought about renting a Kayak and trying the Sound. Any ideas? Tips? Thanks.

Sure..go see Jim at Hatteras Jack's..he guides in a kayak and he's a super angler. He can rent you a kayak too.

That time of the year you may get lucky and catch a big red drum from the surf there. Use large chunks of cut bait with low light conditions being the best time.
