What is the advantage of a four blade prop? I would switch if it would save fuel.
Anyone switched???? I'm thinking of switching to a 4 blade on my mercruiser 310hp I/O...I' ve been told you go down an inch in size and a degree in pitch . Anyone done this?Bob

Thats what Ive been told , easier to stay on plane at lower rpm 's , hence the fuel savings...
I thought your Chris only had 2 speeds, stop and wide open!!
too many factors. I sold my rev 4 for a 3 blade enertia. I couldnt hold plane at slow speeds with the 4 blade and fuel consumption went through the roof on anything less than calm water. It was great around the docks and on calm water though
Just like B-Faithful said - It all depends on the boat/motor/load/prop combination. You can't just make a blanket statement like a 3 blade vs a 4 blade will do this, or do that. The only thing you can be sure about is that a 4 blade has 1 more blade then a 3 blade. Prett ymuch trial and error until you get it right. You'll need a fuel flow meter and a gps for best testing.
I have an older heavier boat and had an aluminum 3 blade prop and it was hard to get it to plane. I have a 200 hp mercury outbd on a 24 foot cuddy. I went to a stainless 4 blade and it is like I got a new boat. Huge difference and very well worth it. Most prop websites has all the information you need to make the switch.
saves some gas 4-blade the pitch is what matters
