Drive on down to Hatteras and hop on the Miss Hatteras. Snapper,Seabass,Triggers and an occasional Grouper. $100.00 all day
Hi All,
I am going to be in Kitty Hawk for 4 days starting May 1rst. I would like to do some fishing and I have never been to the outerbanks fishing at this time of year before. Normally in the summer I fish the Avalon or Nags Head Piers or drive to Oregon Inlet bridge and fish around that. I have also been out in the Sound fishing numerous times but again all in June, July, August.
This time of year would I have better fishing around the piers or on one of the headboats? Any opinion is welcome.
Thanks

yah...i agree...miss hatteras all the way...capt. sperg. will put you in the meat...if you have your own gear take a rod and reel with braided line (30lb minimum)....good shots at big stupid early season dolphin too!
plus may usually current isnt' as bad as june july aug
cheers

I've had some good trips on the miss hatteras.
Thanks for the advice, I will have to give them a call. I was curious about the bring your own rig with braided line comment. Would that fish better than what they provide?
very much so....yah don't tell kp and natalie is told you (they aren't really gonna get mad) but the sensitivity of braid offers no comparison to the mono on their reels, even more importantly it provides little stretch so when you move the rod tip a few inches your hook moves a few inches (you don't miss bites cuz when he bites you hit him). Consequently you only need a moderate hook set and don't have to go bill dance on him. However because of the low stretch you might want to consider a lighter drag setting because there is less shock absorption than with mono and you may pull more fish off if you fish it with the same drag as mono... Braids thinner diameter also cuts through the current way better than mono...helps fight the current and get to the bottom...
when are you going? i'm fishing down there a day or 2 in the second week in may
cheers
