    Arrow colonial beach report 4/18/2008

wanted to go to solomons yesterday but looked at the tide situation there (low-tide is a killer there) & it was friday (packed pier) i decided to go to bushwood or colonial bch, va. while i was driving near waldorf i thought about the little pier bushwood has so i kept going straight to colonial bch. got there around 5:30pm. pier was 1/4 full ( it is built like NB pier but is 3/4 the size of it).
First 2 hrs nothin but catfish or small Wps. i caught a 26in channel cat in which i gave to this guy beside me. his girlfriend preceeded to tell me how to
skin and cook them (Imight give that a try, i said
    might)
Then around 7:30pm first croaker caught on pier by a guy be side me. 10 mins later i caught a 13in croaker on shrimp. 5 mins later hooked another but lost him at the rail (i was pissed). action the slowed for 90min. with no 1 catching any.
Around 9:15pm 3 hispanic guys came down and within 5 minutes of them initially casting they broke the dry-spell & pulled in 3 nice croakers.
so i decided to use bloodworms instead of shrimp and squid. thats when the bite came on. for the next 3hrs i was pullin in a croaker every 10 to 20mins.ended up with 10 croakers between 12 to 17.5inches ( 6 were over 16inches) what amazed me was how early they start bitin down there while in md in places like NB or solomons bite wouldnt start no early then 9-10pm.
1 thing i do know was that these croakers were hittin that bait hard like blues.
