Nanesmond Croakers Friday

Fished the upper Nanesmond (Bradys to day marker 21) with the Croaker King Friday and we landed 85 in 2-8 feet of water. Shrimp outfished squid. Big fish fry Sunday afternoon. Hail to the Mosquito Fleet!

Nanesmond enters the James river between the James River bidge and the Monitor Merrimac bridge/tunnel.

If you put your boat in at Bennets Creek Marina or the public launch off shoulders hill road it is a short no-wake run to the nansemond then turn left after you clear the channel markers and head up the river. ( Depending on your boats draft ) you want to stay in the channel till you clear the markers. Nice river and lots of fishing space.

Any size to them?, we went to the Ocean View fishing pier on friday afternoon we caught some but not much size to them.

there's no need to catch that many.....i've been there just as much, i live on the nansemond and have caught some big croakers but there is no reason to take 85 out unless you aren't going to fish it for a while.....i've watched the croaker size decline and there is really no reason to take 85 out

I have to agree. I hope that you didn't keep all of those fish, especially since you caught a bunch last week too. By the way, it's Nansemond.
